Check your posture!

In a nutshell this is to get you to check your posture, see which posture type you are and then it will help you to understand which exercises and stretches would be more beneficial to you to do regularly!

Get someone to take a photo of you (tight clothing) side view and from the back:

Check the plumb line  – tip of ear, shoulder, hip, knee and ankle….is there a straight line running down or is anything running forward or backwards from that line?

With the back view photo, check – head tilt, shoulder level, hip level, bottom crease level, knee crease level  and ankles (rolling in or out).

For reference it is so good to remember that Pilates has the following benefits….

Core strengthening exercises (abdominals and pelvic floor) to support spine and create stability.

Body alignment and awareness, knowing your posture and knowing how to work with it.

Exercises to lengthen shorter and tighter muscles and strengthen weaker muscle groups.

Correction of muscular imbalances and gain flexibility of muscles and articulation of joints.

Being able to move in different planes with ease ie forward flexion, side flexion, rotation.

This is a very basic posture check and there are lots more things to add but it’s a good start and with your own awareness of your posture, will help you during your time in class.
